The family of former Hungarian gymnast Henrietta Ónodi, a gold medalist in the vault at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, is urgently seeking financial assistance online after she suffered a massive heart attack, necessitating extensive rehabilitation.
Ónodi, who also secured a silver medal in the floor exercise at the same Olympics, retired in 1997. She played a pivotal role in putting Hungary on the gymnastics map during an era dominated by powerhouses like the Soviet Union, Romania, China, and the United States.
“Everything she did for the gymnastics society and the sport has been incredibly unselfish; now it’s our turn to help her in this time of need,” her sister Barbara Ónodi-Klausler wrote on GoFundMe. Henrietta, now 50, collapsed in March while shopping in Florida with her three children. She underwent emergency surgery for severe artery blockages and now requires long-term care and rehabilitation.
