In a surprise decision, Harry Brook has been named captain of England’s ODI team for the upcoming series against Australia, following Jos Buttler’s injury. Buttler, sidelined with a right calf issue, missed the T20 series and The Hundred, and has not recovered in time for the five-match 50-over series starting on September 19 at Trent Bridge.
Brook Named England ODI Captain Over Buttler
Brook, only 25, made his ODI debut just 18 months ago but has already shown leadership potential, having captained Northern Superchargers in The Hundred. Despite being more prominent in Test and T20 formats, this is Brook’s first opportunity to lead the national ODI team.
Additionally, left-arm pacer Josh Hull has been ruled out due to a quad injury, with all-rounder Liam Livingstone added to the squad. The first ODI is set for September 19 at Trent Bridge, and all eyes will be on Brook as he leads the team for the first time.
